A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead alongside a seriously injured child in Dungannon.A male has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

He remains in police custody at this time.

Emergency services were called to the Lisnahull Road area around 11am on Saturday.

Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one person was taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

A local councillor described it as a "domestic incident".

A terraced house in the estate has been sealed off, with a number of officers and police cars in the area.

A trampoline can be seen in the garden of the house.

Sinn Féin councillor Deirdre Varsani, who is also chairwoman of Mid Ulster District Council, said: "Our first concern is for any victims that are involved and anybody who may have witnessed any traumatic events at the time as well.

"There are all kinds of aspects and all kinds of feelings that this might bring up in people.

"This particular incident appears to have been at the more extreme end of a domestic incident, with a man now confirmed dead and a child seriously injured.

"This obviously does send shockwaves, and I think particularly when a child has been injured," she added.

"Our thoughts go out to other family members, and indeed the full community who will be feeling the shockwaves from this."

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said they received a call at 11:08.

They despatched one advanced care paramedic, two ambulance officers and three emergency crews.

A HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) crew were also despatched and a helicopter crew responded in a rapid response vehicle.

The PSNI have asked the public to avoid the area while enquiries continue.
